UnSAD makes me sad
I have UnSeasonal Affective Disorder . . . not the variety brought on by a lack of sunlight but the less common variety brought on by our Unseasonal winter. It's really quite sad.
My life consists of chasing after winter. This weekend I was inMinocqua again which I love but I just wish I could enjoy some winter right here at home. At least I no longer bother fully unpacking and after doing laundry I just put everything back in the bag so I'm ready for the weekend.
After being in Marquette, MI last weekend I actually told Dave that I thought I would be willing to forgo cyclocross racing if I could get a fun job in a location that had a real and consistent winter. That was a pretty bold statement but I stand by that. My Sorel boots look so sad sitting by the back door longing for a real old fashioned Wisconsin blizzard. If I didn't want to enjoy all the seasons to the fullest I would just move somewhere like Florida or southern California. I know, I know most people are thrilled at winters that never really happen but I'm just not one of them. I mean really . . . who doesn't enjoy a nice blizzard that throws down a good 10+ inches of snow. That is so fun!
Anyway, I did a ton of skiing this weekend at Minocqua Winter Park where they have so much beautiful snow. I did River Run, Lake Marie loop, Yukon Trail, Beaver Pond and even found time for the "Jam Loop" which is Silver Strider and Nepco's Cruise. I think this is the most K's of skiing I have ever done in one weekend. My body is exhausted but that's the beauty of skiing . . . it's not just your legs, it's everything that is getting a workout.
Next weekend is the Pre-Birkie. It follows a lot of the Kortie trail so it will be a good preview of how I'm going to do at that all so important race. I just want to ski well enough to keep my Wave 5 spot and not get trampled by all those in waves behind me. I know that some Wave 7 skiers will probably catch me and lots of Wave 6 skiers but as long as everyone in Wave 6 and 7 don't catch me that will be fine. I've definitely surpassed my skiing ability of two years ago so that is a good sign. It could just be good waxing though . . .
And if you could please do a dance for snow, pray for snow, mediatate on snow, whatever's your thing . . . just get me some snow!

I thought about waxing this weekend in preparation for the road season, but it just sounded too painful.
