Visit to Doctor
I went to the doctor today for a follow up on me knee. The good news is that the swelling is down in my knee. The bad news is that the doctor thinks I may have an MCL and an ACL injury. The look on his face during the assessment spoke volumes to me and I was totally bummed when he emphasized for me that it would be months of rehab. Months is a very depressing word as I had hoped to make at the very least a December come back. Tomorrow I will be setting up my MRI to get the full prognosis. Good thing I'm not claustrophobic since it takes half an hour to do the MRI. The only good news is the doctor told me to start putting some weight on my leg and slowly reduce my use of crutches. I'm getting pretty sick of the crutches so that is good news. Now I just want to be able to do short rides on the bike so I can go back to biking to work. I am very pro-transit but it takes me longer on the bus than it does by bike to get to work and I hate getting up early. Okay, whining done for now.
So the UCI season kicked off this last weekend with a few races around the country--west coast, east coast and even the midwest. Ben Turner (TIAA-CREF/Clif Bar) finished 2nd in Michigan and 4th in New York. A little known fact is that two seasons ago while he was warming up for a race he suffered a freak accident that screwed up his ACL and he missed a whole season. He clearly came back even better than ever . . . and since he is my coach clearly I will too.
Some of my Alan teammates were in Michigan as well. Jed Schneider was 4th and Bjorn Selander was 6th and 1st for Juniors. Very cool.
