Change of Plans
Okay, so there's been a change in weekend plans. I know plan to do the Mora Vasaloppet in MN instead of the Pre-Birkie. That means I'll be doing a 35k race which will be my longest ski race yet.
It's kind of funny actually. On the one hand it is a bit crazy as 35k of skiing is a serious undertaking for me and not one I've been preparing for in any way. However, it's good to push yourself a little. I hear that the Mora is not super hilly so I'm hoping that will make this a doable race for me.
I like the idea of doing something different. Since the Pre-Birkie this year is going to take place mostly on the Kortie trails I thought it would make the actual Kortie a little anti-climactic . . . or else if I hated the Pre-Birkie I wouldn't want to do the Kortie.
The only downside to these spontaneous changes in plans is that the registration for the Mora is at $90. Oh well, I actually signed up for the Kortie before the first price jump so I saved a ton there so I can spend my savings on races I don't sign up for until the last minute (yeah, both the Noque and the Mora were spendy races for me because of that).
Oh yeah, and I still contend that I'm just skiing recreationally and enjoying the off season. I'm not a serious racer so would people stop laughing when I tell them that. I don't go to ski school, I don't do full marathon distance races and I still have pretty bad technique. I don't even do any serious training for skiing . . . I just ski on the weekends, go running a couple times during the week, do one strength workout a week and bike to work which is only a couple of miles each way.
