Training in the Dark
First I'd like to note that I have resumed training. Some people may think that it might be a little late to start training now with the season starting to wind down. However, I think it is better late than never. Besides after two months of doing rest weeks every week for my training I figured it was time to see what it felt like to do a week of training. It's a fun change of pace and it will give me something to say in my emails to Ben that is new and different so he doesn't get bored.
My training this week:
On Tuesday I went running for the first time in 2 months . . . well, except for the short bursts of running in races. Of course, to be honest it was jogging but it felt fun as I realize I miss running. Wednesday I headed over to Garner Park after work to do some cross practice in the dark. I bumped into Anna who was just finishing up doing some laps when I got there. I did mine in the dark which adds an element of excitement as you hit holes you can't see. Then tonight I actually did a couple of 15 minute intervals . . . once again in the dark but this time on the road. It was kind of fun riding in the dark of the arboretum with the little sliver of a moon. I saw a lot of deer and had to pay attention as they were darting about and I didn't want to get hit by one. It was a nice ride but I did a very short cool down after my last interval as you cool down pretty fast when the temperature in only about 33 degrees.
I presume I'll be tired at the race on Sunday as this is the most riding I've done during the week in a long time. However, hopefully this means that I will show some improvement in my riding in December. And if I don't it was at least fun to do some training and with the little tiny snowflakes I saw in the air on my way home last night I really should just worry about getting in shape to ski the Birkie!
Can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving?? My big plans for next week don't involve the holiday though (although my mother keeps asking me if I'll be visiting for Tofurkey day). Monday evening JPE and I are meeting to go over our plans for holding a UCI race and start getting everything in order to submit our race application. If this works out we'll have a nice little Midwest UCI cross scene with Michigan, Ohio, Iowa and now (hopefully) Wisconsin.
