Where did the week go?
I saw a whole lot of this during the week. I love the state of Wisconsin but I saw too much of the freeway this week. On Wednesday I drove up to Chetek and back for a work meeting. Seven hours of driving in one day is just too much and a 13 hour work day is way too much. That especially holds true if you're already tired. Friday was a shorter work trip just to Waterford and back but even that is over 3 hours of driving round trip.
The funniest part of the work trips was the car that I got to drive. Yes, it's a former State Patrol car which is the joy of working for the DOT. There's nothing quite as fine as rolling in the Crown Vic. It's hilarious too see people flying down the road and then making the sudden slow down as they try to decide if you're a cop or not.
I really should post a picture of my laptop as that was basically my week . . . driving around for work meetings and sitting in front of my laptop trying to get photos edited. I only barely got that done before today's Whitewater race and now I have a ton more to do. I haven't even looked at the video yet. The double race weekend is going to be the death of me!
Hopefully next week I'll get caught up. I have to travel all over the state doing training sessions for work so at night I won't have much to do but work on madcross stuff. I am planning to sneak my bike along though so I can try to get in a couple of rides. I hope it doesn't rain as I'd like to take my mountain bike and hit up some trails.
I guess I should blog about the Whitewater Trash Dash CX race. This morning I was so tired I just couldn't get going and Dave asked me if I wanted to stay home. I kind of did just want to take a nap but I said no as I didn't want to not be at the race. Unfortunately, the Whitewater race just isn't the kind of place where you can hide your lack of fitness. Or at least I couldn't. I had nothing right from the word go and was off the back by the first set of barriers (what is that 30 seconds into the race). I forced myself to keep going though and figured it would be a good training day even if it was not a good race day. It was still nice to be out racing even if I was giving some serious though to downgrading to a 3. It was still fun or at least the few corners in the race were fun and I did like section where you could either ride or run between the barriers. It gave me a chance to work on my shouldering technique.
Dave was looking strong but he flatted and we don't have wheels for the pits so he had to get a loaner from a friend so he could finish. He's out turning our road bike wheels into spare wheels as I type. He's racing so well this year that he should have spare wheels for the pit so he can stay in the race and keep in the top 5 overall in the series.
That's all for now as it looks like my photos have downloaded so I can start organizing them. Tomorrow night I have a DCBA board meeting so Dave's going to have to do some photo organizing and uploading for me so I don't fall too far behind.
