No racing, little riding
Saw the doctor on Monday and the strong recommendation was no racing for this weekend or I'd be looking at more time off from training. I did think about racing but realized that would be crazy as I don't want to have troubles all season. Right now I'm allowed to ride to work or do other easy rides like that but no intervals or hard efforts. Luckily/hopefully I should be okay to race by Oct 13 and 14 if I take it easy. Of course, my fitness won't be so great but I'll just plan for a resurgence for the last part of the season.
What have I been doing in the meantime?
Monday was dentist day. I haven't had anything but my teeth cleaned in about 13 years but my luck ran out. I had 3 cavities (my first ones since childhood) and I had a tooth that had a broken piece. Good times . . . I had 3/4 of my mouth numbed as all these things were on different sides of my mouth. I could hardly eat on Monday and even yesterday was difficult. Today is better but my jaw still aches.
Monday was also our kid's cross clinic. The kids were funny and even after we took down the practice course they kept riding it. I think they had a good time and hopefully some of them come out and try a race. The volunteer instructors all seemed to have a good time and I think we'll be doing this again next year.
Tuesday I had to get up way before the sun came up and go to Wisconsin Rapids for a work meeting. Now that I can't run I'm not getting up early so my attempt to be a morning person is likely over. That's kind of a bummer as I have a bunch of work trips coming up in October and many of them will require early mornings. I guess I should have kept going with my transformation into a morning person.
Tonight Dave went to cross practice and there was a record 39 people there. YIKES. I was hanging out at home, drinking tea and applying heat to my calf as directed by my doctor. I also took time to cook up some great dinner. I bought some beets at the farmer's market today and I wanted to find something interesting to do with them. I am happy to report that I found a new favorite beet recipe . . . beet pesto. I highly recommend it for those of you who maybe don't think you like beets as I think you will find beet pesto to be quite tasty. I'm actually not a big beet lover but I just couldn't pass them up today at the farmer's market. I like to eat seasonally and beets are in full force right now and I just had to have some. I'm glad I did as beet pesto tastes great and the color is fun. I put the pesto on some fresh pasta and added in some fresh chopped up tomato.
**This blog will return to its regularly scheduled cyclocross postings in the near future. In the meantime I guess you'll have to put up with all the cooking posts.

I hope that leg gets better soon! It must be really hard for you to not be racing.
Too bad about the morning person transformation! I figured that if you made it maybe I would try. Well, maybe someday, like next year or something.... BTW, were you able to make yourself go to bed earlier and get up earlier, or were you just getting up early and getting less sleep?
Seems like everyone's having knee issues this year!
