Bad news can lead to good things
The bike commute was probably more than I should have ridden today. I limped around the office all day and rode home painfully slow letting every bike commuter fly by. I've got a massage scheduled for Saturday morning with my massage therapist who has worked miracles on me before. I hope I can get an appointment with my favorite bike racing medical guy for tomorrow but that is probably unlikely. I've decided not to worry about it and just see what develops. Hopefully I haven't done anything serious and I will soon be able to resume riding my bike at a normal pace.
However, although it is a bummer to be off the bike I have put my extra time to good use. First off I had time to cook up a delicious dinner of pesto tortellini with string beans, purple peppers, red onions and tomatoes. And all of those items were local . . . fresh tortellinis from RPs Pasta and everything else from the farmer's market.
I also had some time to work on bike race stuff. JT Whitneys is now officially on board for another year and we'll be enjoying some Golden Shine, Badger Red Ale, some seasonal Pumpkin thingy and a Porter. I also lined up a sponsor (Lawton and Cates) for our Cat 4 women's race so we can waive the one-day license fee for those who don't have one. I got the 200 cowbells ordered. I got the flyer and poster pretty much done except for a few final confirmations I'm awaiting on sponsorship. I talked to a few groups about possibly taking part in our "mini-expo" that I'm trying to put together for the race.
The injury also gave me some time to work on some things for the Saturday night after Cam-Rock to give out of towners more reason to stick around. Some local guys are already working on putting together a post-race party. I'm trying to put together a showing of Sam Smith's new movie Cyclofile. I think it is going to be quite a weekend so plan to be in Madison on Oct 13 and 14 if you like cross!
Of course being injured is a bummer and I had hoped to do some hard training tonight and Saturday and then use the Chicago race as another really hard training ride so I could build towards some good fitness in late October. However, I will just have to rearrange my training plans a bit, rest the leg, and use my time to get other things done that have been needing my attention. Hopefully my leg gets better soon before my work at becoming a morning person falls by the wayside as I don't know if I'll be motivated to start all over with my 21 days!!
