Thoughts for today . . .
35 people at cross practice at Garner Park last night. Even with that size of a group we didn't seem to get into any trouble although the photographer trying to take senior photos was probably not too happy with as he kept moving to spots on the course. We did get some girls playing soccer to cheer for us and they made a special effort for the gals who turned out. Hopefully we inspired them.
It wasn't a great night for me. I thought my right knee was bothering me but I attributed that to it not being used to cross yet. Unfortunately that wasn't really the situation and by the end of the night I realized that my calf muscle was in extreme pain. I could hardly walk when I got off my bike when I got home. I iced, medicated and tryed to massage it. I skipped running this morning since it is still painful to walk. It didn't feel so great on the bike commute to work either. I have an appointment with my massage therapist for Saturday morning so hopefully she can work her magic and I'll still be able to race in Chicago on Sunday.
Lots of discussion about the start of the WI cross series. Some people are intrigued by the hill climb and time trial while others are not at all happy. I like the idea of keeping things interesting and cointinueing to grow cross. I probably should have been less honest at cross practice last night and so I will from here forward keep my thoughts to myself regarding this event. You can check out the USA Cycling rule book and decide for yourself if you think this should be a part of the series or just a pre-series event. Then let WCA know as the promoters will discuss this again to decide if it should be in the series next year. Apparently we all agreed to it when we met last winter. And if you contact the WCA board or officials be nice and be constructive.
