No racing lots of living
No Jackson Park for me today. There was no way my leg was up to racing yet. On Saturday I had a fabulous (and excruciatingly painful) massage but even that wasn't enough. I did ride today after 3 days off the bike and my leg is better (no limp when I walk at least) but it has tightened up tonight. I did do a couple of short race pace efforts on the flats just to see how it would feel. I also tried doing a hard effort on the climb but the leg didn't really like that. I see the doctor tomorrow afternoon so we'll see what he sees. I had hoped to do a hard training block after the Fat Tire with an eye towards good fitness by late October but better to take it easy than screw up my leg/knee for the whole season. Hopefully I'll be good by next weekend for the WCA opener.
So what do you do when you're weekend plans are for training and racing but those things are on hold? Lots of mundane things that get put on the back burner most of the time . . . . planning a showing of Cyclofile, working on sponsor proposals (Sheila Moon is likely to be on board!!), laundry, errands, cleaning, grocery shopping, taking my mtn bike in to try and figure out my wheel problem, and cooking something fun.
On the cooking front, I've been meaning to make spaetzle for a long, long time but never got around to it until tonight. Yummy . . . I made homemade spaetzle and baked it casserole-style with some seitan, onions and gruyere cheese. I also had some corn I had bought at the Wednesday farmer's market and I sauted that up with some purple bell pepper, squash and red onion. Delicious! There are some upsides to not racing. Here's my spaetzle making photos:
