Race Course
Rode out to Badger Prairie last night (really slowly) so I could ride the proposed new race course. I am overall pleased with the new course. If you live locally you can probably ride it by following the orange arrows that JPE put on the grass.
Here's a description of the course:
Start is on the road in the same place as last year but this year instead of turning into the grass you can continue down the road and turn left into the mowed trails and follow those up and around towards the library. Pop back out onto the road and follow it down and then take a right turn into the mowed trails again. This pops you back onto the gradual climb up to the run-up where we will once again have the ever popular logs. After the log run up you follow the trail back to the road and take that up and turn left into a short mowed trail, then back onto the road for a short bit before turning left onto a gravel trail. Follow that up and around and it dumps you out into the grass where the shelter is. At this point it becomes quite fun as we loop people around the trees, go by where the grills are which is where the barriers will be placed. Then down by the playground where we will also have a dismount over a couple of logs into the sawdust by the playground. Then some off camber up/downs by the bathrooms and back to the road. It seemed fun when we rode it last night but, of course, I am only allowed to ride slowly so I'm not sure what it will be like at race pace. I think JPE said his computer said 1.8 miles which is a nice distance for a cross race.
The good part is that it will be super spectator friendly as there will be a lot more racing happening right near the shelter. JPE is drawing a map for me to show the park's department and I'll put that online when I have it.
The other good luck I've had is that their is a Civil War Reenactment going on this weekend at Badger Prairie and they mowed a section along the road for parking. It is exactly where we were planning to have people park and now that it's mowed there is much more space to do that.
Tonight's plan is to hit JPE's birthday party at the brew pub in Verona. Should be a good time . . . Saturday will be the day to get all my errands done and maybe plant some stuff in my yard where I took out my shrubs . . . Sunday I will go to Lapham Peak to take photos/video of the race. I feel bad about not getting any photo/videos from Saturday but with all the work travel I have coming up next month and all the race director stuff that is looming I need to spend the day getting other stuff done.
