Travel Planning

A bunch of today was taken up with travel planning . . . the work variety though. It's no where nearly as exciting as Chris's upcoming travel though.

In a couple of weeks I'm doing a tour of the state . . . Wausau, Tomah, Rice Lake. Followed by De Pere and then eventually Waukesha. In the middle of that I'm headed to Dearborn, Michigan for a conference for several days.

It's never easy making travel arrangements when you work for the state. Going to Michigan has been the worst. First came the justification process for traveling outside of the state. That requires a written justification on the right form and it has to be approved by all the levels right on up to the Secretary's office. If that wasn't enough the flight that I need to take is not the cheapest one but it is the only one that will get me there on time. Of course, that requires another written justification that has to work its way through the approval process. Of course, if I didn't have a cross race on the Sunday before the conference I could take any flight. However, I don't want to miss the race so I need to be on the 5:30am flight out of Madison to get to Detroit on time.

Enough about that though . . . .

The expo area at Badger Cross is really shaping up! As Chris mentioned in his comment World Bicycle Relief will have a booth in the expo and they will be have some raffle prizes that people who stop by the booth can sign up to win. As mentioned previously Schwinn will be there with demo bikes as will Indy Fab. Willy Bikes will be there for any tech support needs. It looks like the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin will be there as well and they may also have a raffle for people who stop by their display. I have to confirm with the coffee guy as well as Jonathon from Invigoration. I realize it's really just a mini-expo but it's a start and hopefully we can continue to grow it in future years.

In local cross gossip . . . plans are in the works for a non-series cross race on the open weekend of Nov 10/11 so save the date. No location yet, no sponsors yet, no permits yet, no schedule yet . . . but I think it should be called Burrito Benefit Cross. We have to get this big Madison race weekend over before we think any more about a new race.

I'm also interested in doing something about the lack of a junior women's racing at cyclocross worlds. Times are changing and girls deserve the opportunity. I emailed with Adam Myerson who is the US's rep to the UCI cross committee and I've got some ideas of where to start. More on that later as well.

And now my injury update for those of you who care . . . . the calf didn't feel too great on the ride home from work last night so I took it easy. I'm planning to race Saturday and see how it goes. I really want to race on Sunday but we'll see how it feels after Saturday. I'm planning to do cross practice tomorrow but I may skip the barriers to try and not aggravate the injury. We shall see but I really want to get back to it.

Tonight some gals new to cross are coming out for some instruction and pre-riding at Badger Prairie. I'm excited as several of my Mad FORCs teammates are coming out and a former FORCs who is now an Ironwoman. It should be super fun!
