Angell Park Cross
So today was the Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championship race at Angell Park Speedway. Cool course with some nice off camber sections and tricky corners. I like that kind of stuff. However, there were also some small, steep climbs and some long power sections which I just am not strong enough on yet. I would sum up my race by saying it was neither a great nor a horrible performance. I would say that I was uninspired today. Both in my racing and in my photography. I just didn't have my "A Game" as they say. I didn't think I would have a bad race but I just couldn't envision having a great one either. This sounds weird but the snow made me ready to end the season and get started on next year. I think at that moment I stopped being able to see that I would get any better this cross season. It's a little weird since I've been going out into the elements and riding when sane people are staying home where it is warm and dry. Well, I never said I was sane. I really wasn't having any inspired photography moments either. I've got some that are okay but not as many as usual. Sorry about that! Some days the creative spirit is a little low.
However, I did have some good karma today. There I was hanging out in the bathroom with the other A women after the race changing into warmer, dryer clothes. I was discussing going to Nationals and happened to mention that I procrastinated too long and didn't get a room at the Biltmore. Well, low and behold Terri Spaude was in the bathroom and had reserved a room that they no longer needed as Kip was going to get his cross country ski season started and wouldn't be going to Providence. That totally made my day as I really wanted to stay at the host hotel with all the other crossers and not at the Days Inn. That also means that Chris Strout can have a couch instead of a space of floor jammed between cross bikes on a Days Inn carpet that probably has seen better days. Good karma all around today.
