RIP - Badger State Games Mtn Bike Race

I got the word this week that Badger State Games has dumped the mountain bike race from its line up. Although the race was small it's a bummer as I know a lot of people who got their start racing at Badger State Games. Something about the event always brought out the beginners.

My favorite part of the whole thing is that BSG told me only after they had already made a decision. In reality if they had bothered to talk to me I could have offered quite a few suggestions of ways they could have reduced costs.

In the end, I didn't try to convince them to change their minds. They actually only notified me of their decision after I emailed them to tell them I would no longer be able to be the race director but that I had found a replacement. I guess my retirement just made it easier for them to tell me that they were axing the race.

I guess between the WORS races and the WEMS races it won't really be missed because there is a race pretty much every weekend anyway. After about 10 years of putting on the race I am sad that it is all over but alas I still have the Badger Prairie cross race.
