9 degrees

The bank near my office said it was 9 degrees this morning. I actually thought it felt a little warmer than that on my ride. I put that down to the fact that I was expecting it to be as cold as yesterday. Plus I only had two sections that were windy which helped with not feeling so cold. Although that probably means it will be windy on the way home!

However, there is some seriously icy streets out there and unfortunately some of them are on my commuting route. This one street was unbelievable. For those of you who know Madison I had just crossed over the Harrison Street bike/ped bridge and was headed west towards Allen St. I was just riding along on snow covered ice when all of a sudden I turned on a street that was just ice. There was no snow or salt or sand or anything on top of the ice. I made a very careful turn into a driveway and up onto the sidewalk until I reached Allen Street. I really don't need to crash.

Looks like the temps are going to climb out of the single digits this week so that should make my moring ride a little warmer. Maybe it also means that my commuting route will get de-iced.

Party tonight! See MadCross.org for the details.
