Teeth
For the first zillion years of my life I had very few problems with my teeth. However, this last year that has caught up with me and I have had tons of things happen. Earlier this week I started having more problems and I had to stop chewing on the right side of my mouth because it was too painful. I got in to see a dentist this morning (my dentist was on vacation but someone else agreed to see me). On the upside I may just have a sinus infection which is causing pain as the sinus passage lies right next to where the tooth is that is very painful. On the downside he prescribed antibiotics to see if that took care of the problem (I'm not a huge fan of antibiotics unnecessarily). However, that sounded way better than my other options. At first I was skeptical of the diagnosis but my head isn't feeling so great right now so this could be the signs of a sinus infection (actually I'm not really sure I've had one before so what do I really know about it).
If he's not correct then I probably would have to have the tooth pulled. I'm so not interested in that as I just committed to setting up an ERA account so I can pay for the $3,100 implant I need for a tooth I had extracted last summer. Even with 26 deductions over the course of the year that is a lot of money each paycheck even with the pre-tax savings. That kind of money would buy me a sweet bike. Not to mention that the tooth that is painful is sitting next to one of my wisdom teeth which the dentist felt would need to come out as well if I had this tooth pulled. No thank you!
And I hate seeing hygienists that aren't my normal ones (why did my dentist go on vacation this week???). You see I have a terrible gag reflex which make dental x-rays hugely difficult for all parties involved. My normal hygienists know this and have developed some great techniques for getting it done. Today's hygienist didn't know how to handle it even after I offered up a suggestion. I clearly put her off to a bad start to her day and I wasn't having the best time ever either.
I never thought I would hope for a sinus infection!

that would make life easier if it were just a sinus infection. hopefully it is! I get them often and have noticed related tooth pain at times.
if you haven't tried a neti pot (with neti pot salt) for your sinus infection, that might help, too. I too try to avoid antibiotics, though using them will likely make a difference right away.
There's really a relationship between tooth ache and sinus infection. Most patients doesn't know about this and dental experts should be aware of this condition.
