A little of everything
Saturday - Roller Ski
In my mind going out for a 2 hour rollerski wouldn't be that big a deal since I've been skiing at least once a week. However, I was wrong about that. I blame the wind though. Dave and I headed out from the house, over to Olin-Turville and then on to the bike path. We went out past the Lussier Center before turning around and heading home. I was doing pretty well with all the various road crossings, railroad tracks, etc which are all a bit intimidating on rollerskis. I even forced myself to V2 as much as possible but that was difficult on the last part of the Capitol City Trail (the straight section before the Sheraton) as the head wind was ferocious. All in all though I was glad to have done it and plan another outing like that for next weekend. I was exhausted when I got home though. It was a clear reminder that I need to be working on my skiing endurance.
Saturday Night - Cooking up some good food
A huge chunk of our friends were out at the uber cool Sardines (we know this because one group of friends called to tell us another group of friends were also there). I didn't feel bad though because we were at home having a delicious dinner of what I like to call Vegan Pot Roast* along with a side of Shredded Brussel Sprouts and Apple. Both are super delicious.
Sunday - Cross Racing

Sunday was Viking Cross in lovely Stoughton. It wasn't a series race but there was still a hardy group of racers out braving the 35 degree temps to race.
I had a good start actually and got in front of Michele and right behind Shannon. Since it was just a small group of five women we didn't start out to hard. Laps one and two I thought I was racing well. Shannon had a little gap on me and I had a little gap on Michele. For the first two laps and even into the third I kept Shannon about the same distance in front of me and it wasn't an insurmountable gap. However, soon thereafter I fell apart. I screwed up the sand beach one lap and just had trouble getting going again as I was frustrated with myself. On that lap I could see that Shannon's lead had really grown and that I had a good size gap on Michele. Then I started riding not so hard and easing up thus allowing Shannon to get way too far ahead to close the gap. Since Michele wasn't closing in I really wasn't going all out. I started thinking about how my arms were tired from skiing so I couldn't go hard and my abs hurt too. Then I thought about how some of my leg muscles were tired and I just kept slowing down more and more. Good thing for me Michele's hands were super cold and so she too was loosing motivation or she might have caught me. However, when Abby caught me (and by that I mean lapped me) I suddenly remembered this was race. Of course that was too late to make a difference since that happened almost at the end of the race but for the remaining sections I put the hammer down and raced that last 1/4 lap really hard.
Good times though!
*Vegan Pot Roast - Lightly oil the bottom of a pan. Put in one onion chopped into larger pieces, a pound or so of smaller sized fingerling potatoes and carrots (either baby carrots or chopped into a small size). Roast those for 45 minutes at 400 degrees. Then add in chopped up Seitan, some green beans or similar vegetable and some mushroom gravy. Stir to combine. Cook for another 15 minutes or until everything is fully cooked.
