Happy Tofurkey Day
Ah yes, it is Tofurkey Day . . .
I started my holiday with a ride. I'm not insane though so I started with an indoor warm up on the trainer before heading outside. The windchill was a toasty minus 7 degrees. My knee isn't a big fan of cold weather riding and it fills really clunky when I first start riding outside when it is really cold. However, the warm up on the trainer seemed to help that.
Back to the ride. The plan was to do two 15 minute intervals at a hard pace. That is easier said than done when you have on a lot of layers and the wind is gusting at 40mph. However, I did my best and tried to remind myself that those intervals would payoff when I got to Providence. They went pretty well and I didn't get too cold actually. However, I wasn't sad to be done either. I did my "cool" down ride at home on the trainer as well. I don't mind riding in the cold but I also don't feel the need to overdo it.
After the ride and warming back up it was time to head up to central Wisconsin for the holiday. You never know what you're in for with my Mom but she was on pretty good behavior. We only had one conversation about when I was going to "grow up" and stop doing all the silly racing and become an "adult" by which she means have children. I kind of thought having a 9 to 5 job with a retirement account and a big mortgage was rather adult but apparently not. My Mom is very traditional (obviously) and I'm pretty sure she'll never understand my life. I got even by making her look at lots of pictures of me racing and then regaling her with stories of my planned trip to Providence for Nationals.
