Ski Racing to Begin Very Soon

It's official my nordic ski racing season will soon be beginning--on January 7 to be exact.

My friend Pam had mentioned earlier in the year an interest in putting together a women's team for the 24 Hours of Telemark. At the time I told most everyone who would listen that I just couldn't see myself doing that. I was going to be biking until mid-December so how could I possibly be ready especially given I wasn't able to ski last year. Add that to the fact that I've always been a horrible skier it seemed like doing a 24 Hour ski race that soon after cross ended would be crazy.

However, Pam sent out another email last weekend and the next thing you know I'm emailing her back and telling her that I'll do it. I think that I may be crazy but you've got to kick start your ski season somehow and this hopefully will be just the ticket. This should make skiing the Kortie seem easy . . . or so I hope.

Now if I can just kick my illness I can actually get out and ski and get ready. I'm anxious to get doing something as I feel like I've been really lazy lately what with the taper to Nationals and then riding not that much over the weekend. One 30 minute race, a 20 minute warm up and maybe 20 minutes pre-riding the course. It really wasn't that much racing compared to my normal cyclocross weekend.

On another cross related note (even though I said my last post was it on cross for awhile) John Ericsson emailed me about going to Gloucester in 2006. That sounds great if I can get a Cat 1 or 2 designation so I'm eligible for the Elite race. That may be a challenge given my results this season although I'm hoping that having 12 UCI points will count for something. Okay, no more cross talk for a while as it's time to enjoy the snow!
