Bike season has officially started
Yesterday the bike season officially started at my house. It did not start easily. First I had to get the cross tires off my road bike wheels and get road tires back on. Sounds easy enough but, of course, it wasn't.
The cross tires came off easily enough but I couldn't seem to find a workable tube. First tube had a long enough valve stem but everytime I took the pump off the stem would keep letting air out even though it was closed. So I looked around every nook and cranny of our bike shed and found another tube but it didn't have a long stem. I'd used tubes like that before in a pinch so I installed that tube but, of course, this one wasn't quite long enough to get any of our pumps on. Scavenged desperately through the house and shed and finally after nearly giving up I found another long stem tube which I did successfully install just as I was about to swear off the bike season altogether.
Then I had to locate all the bike gear . . . jersey, shorts, leg warmers, vest, longsleeve undershirt, socks, shoes . . . however, after some searching everything needed was located and I did actually go for a ride.
It was a very short ride of about 75 minutes in which every single hill almost killed me. I think I might be in shape enough for the Capitol Velo Club no drop, easy ride but that is about it. Sure I have fitness but it is ski fitness and that doesn't make riding a bike easy. At least I have 6 months until cross season to get into biking shape.
