If only . . .

If only . . . I were rich I would do a lot of things. But every Spring I dream of getting my 1969 AMC Javelin running again and finding somewhere to store it in Madison. The roar of a 4 barrel kicking in, the growl of a dual exhaust . . . whenever I hear that it is like music to my ears. It never fails to bring a smile to my face. Sometimes when I'm watching a tv show with a good classic muscle car scene I have to rewind so I can turn it up and hear it again.

Every once in a while I think that I should sell my car. I mean, really, what's an alternative transportation program manager doing owning a gas guzzling, speed demon of a car. But I love that car even if I've let it sit and now it needs new hoses, battery, brakes, etc. Oh sure, once in a while I think of selling it to fund something that would make more sense like a new road bike, second cross bike, a nice camera lens, a pro digital slr, or a fabulous trip somewhere.

I don't think I'll ever do it though. There's too many memories with that car . . . cruising the Dairy O, driving 120+mph, doing the quarter mile drag out in the middle of nowhere, doing donuts, amazing burnouts, and generally getting in trouble. And yes, I had a misspent youth!

Not familiar with the Javelin? Check out this website. Mine is purple -- think annodized purple and you get the idea.
