Training resumes . . . finally
I decided that I couldn't leave it any longer if I was going to get ready for cross season so on Monday I decided I better start training again. I should be well rested since I stopped training at the end of June. Of course, on Monday I didn't go for a ride instead I prepared for the Capitol Velo Club meeting at my house but Monday's are usually rest days anway.
But on Tuesday I got it in gear and went on the Tuesday "alt-Bomb" ride (for those not in Madison this is the Tuesday fast ride with the boys and got its name after Bombay Bicycle Club dropped the ride from their ride calendar). Anyway, I rode respectably on the ride and didn't get dropped until one of the bigger hills outside Paoli. That's a good night for me. Then Samantha (another CVC cross racer) and I rode back home at a nice brisk pace.
Now on Wednesday my legs were fried but I still went out and did my training ride. However, it is not easy doing an interval in town as you have to try and time all the stop lights. Why was I doing this in town? Well I was trying to run errands while doing training (it's all about multi-tasking). Wednesday was the Mad FORC's sponsored mtn bike time trial at Blackhawk Ski Club and I had this great idea to turn it into a suprise wedding party for Jen and Kelson (who are a FORCs/Chainsmoker couple). So I had to stop off and pick up their gift, a card and some decorations. It made my intervals a little less than they could have been but it was a good party and I think they were suprised. I hope so! And in town intervals are better than no intervals.
Last night was a short, easy jog and an easy ride. I went for a ride with my assistant, Joe. Last Friday I helped him buy a bike and I found an organized ride he can do in September. I thought I should go out for a ride with him and give him a few pointers to make sure he enjoyed the bike. It's always fun riding with someone who is new to biking and is getting excited about it. The plan is that once he gets comfortable with riding he will start biking to work which I would say he's ready. And no, it's not easy being my assistant as not only do I tell you what to do all day but then I try to tell you what to do outside of work.
So there you have it . . . I've made it through one work week sticking to a good training plan. On top of training I also have the Mad Cross CX Clinic flyer posted and am almost done with the Badger Priaire race flyer (and yes I know everyone is anxious for it since it is race 1 this year). I still have tons to do to get ready for that big cx weekend but I'm getting there.
