I got a new job!

Yes, the impossible has happened and I now have a new job. Starting in July I will be Wisconsin's Safe Routes to School Coordinator.

I made the announcement at work today and there were some very great moments. I told my boss and the department director after a mundane meeting. As they were getting up from the table I said "Oh, I have one more thing I want to discuss." They sat back down and I said, "I have accepted a job at the DOT and my last day will be June 30." The look of shock on their face as they took that in was priceless. They recovered pretty quickly but I could tell that they didn't see it coming. I guess that using the word "discuss" was a bit misleading.

Apparently as soon as I left that part of the office there was a big closed door meeting. As there should be since I am the 3rd manager (out of 3) that my supervisor oversees who has left in the last 3 months. He will now be left with no managers until he finishs the hiring for the other two who left this spring. I think he better get on that since I've been the manager for my unit and parts of the other two units.

Anyway, my new job is very exciting and I get to work on creating the program from scratch since the Safe Routes to School position is new in Wisconsin. I will be posting more on that later.

CONGRATS!!! Just remember, not all kids who are riding to school know how to dismount and jump over barriers ... in "safe routes," I think the operative word is "safe" ...
