Tough Week . . . Sort of
Why has it been a tough week you ask?
1. The long weekend was wicked hot
2. My knee has started to bother me at random times
However, on the other hand things are looking pretty good.
1. Over the last two months I have increased my fitness beyond what it was at the start of the cross season last year
2. I had a great job interview (actually two - a first and second interview) and even though I think I'm a long shot to get the job it always feels good to do a great interview. It's been years since I've been the interviewee instead of interviewer.
3. Yesterday it was cooler and a little rainy on my ride so I feel better about the weather now.
About my knee . . . I have this sharp pain from time to time. It only has happened when I'm walking casually. The first time was at the mall so I wrote it off as psychosamatic--I hate shopping at the mall so I figured it was my mind finding a way to get me to leave. However, this weekend it happened while I was casually strolling around the Farmer's Market. Yesterday it happened twice--once walking a block to the bus stop after a meeting and once walking from the bike rack to the building. I have a doctor's appointment on Monday to try and find out why I can ride my bike and the worst my knee feels is tight/tired but casual strolling causes me trouble.
Regarding the weather, I don't like it when it is hot. Those years when I raced the WORS series I always sucked (more than normal) when it was really hot. Once I gave up that scene I vowed to never race in the heat again. I have pretty much stayed true to that for the last five years or so. I did my ride on Sunday so that I left as late as I could and still get home before it was dark.
Not much to report from the weekend -- besides the Farmer's Market we also went to Brat Fest to support the Boca brat addition. We watched the Madison Marathon so we could cheer on friends who were running. The Russian Style Ski School had a relay team (they got 2nd) so we had to cheer for them. As you can see Dave and I did all the traditional Madison activities which felt weird as haven't been home for Memorial Day Weekend in a really long time.
The next phase of my training starts now as I've done my first 2 months of base training. Ben has promised me that my next training plan will include plenty of Light zone work, longer endurance rides , and maybe add one more Middle zone day into the mix. Should be fun!

Or, you could try getting up early in the morning to ride -- we had 6 more hours of daylight today than six months ago -- and it's light at like 5:30 ...
Get up early . . . that's crazy talk! I avoid getting up early as much as possible. A nice night ride sounds so much more enjoyable.
