Some mountain bike action
So last night I finally got in another mountain bike ride. I have to say that after a season with only three rides on my mtn bike riding the trails at Blackhawk seems new again. I can't even believe I'm saying that after riding there since around 1990 and feeling like there were no suprises left. I mean it's only 60 acres and the trails are superb but you can only ride them in so many different ways over the course of a season.
In reality I did ride some of the trails there last fall when I would go out to Blackhawk to do a cross workout (they have lights so it's perfect for when the time changes). However, they feel totally different on a mountain bike and it was nice to revisit them after so much time away. There were 12 of us Mad FORCs out for a night of riding and Diane and I rode out from downtown which is the "classic' way of doing a Blackhawk ride.
Somehow riding from downtown always make the ride feel so much better--spiritually better not physically better. I don't mean that as a put down to people who drive out as I admit that riding makes for a super long night. It's just that riding there has been something I've been doing long before I became fit enough for it to not be a big deal. It was just a part of the whole experience of going there and was something I did when I never even imagined I would one day buy a road bike. I think it takes me back to be a pure mountain biker.
YIKES, I'm getting all nostalgic here and starting to feel a little old. Speaking of nostalgic . . . Dave claims he's going to Iola to do a WORS race. I've been enjoying myself making fun of him all day. I will, however, not be joining him and agree that of all the races Iola is a pretty cool course. I just can't imagine every getting enthused enough to do another WORS race. Luckily I feel that I have done enough of them over many, many years to not feel bad about that.
Now the 24 Hours of Nine Mile is a whole different matter!!! If all goes well it looks like the FORCs will have 4 teams but I'm really trying to get 5 teams this year which would be a new record for us. That is going to be so awesome!!
