I did not screw up my first wedding
Okay, so yesterday I photographed my first wedding. It was an awesome opportunity to do something new although I do question my friend's sanity in not secretly asking someone else to be a backup to me. I was a bit stressed about the whole thing but it turned out okay. I would do a million things differently if my friends were willing to get re-married next weekend. However, I got some okay shots and I did okay given my limited photo gear which is not the exact selection of lenses, etc that you would choose if you were a wedding photographer.
I was prepared as much as possible though. The minister had a preference for flash-free so I shot the wedding at 1600 ISO. Luckily the Canon 20D handles high ISOs very well. I wouldn't enlarge the photos much beyond 5x7 but they aren't too noisy/grainy. I shot everything in RAW so I would have as much latitude as possible when I processed the photos. RAW is awesome except that I need to get some 2GB cards if I want to shoot any events. A 1GB card holds only 98 photos. I also shot some photos with film (if you can imagine) at the reception. I used Portra 400 NC so I'm excited to get proof sheets to look at and see how they turned out. It felt really weird at first to be using the film camera . . . so retro. I had to remind myself to advance the film as I never had enough money to buy a motor drive back in college.
Anyway, enough about photography . . . a huge congratulations to Pete and Clare on their wedding. It was a beautiful wedding, a fun reception and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to document it. It was a great (although slightly nerve wracking) experience.
