Last Cross Practice

Last night was the last official cross practice of the season. A big shout out to Lewis for organizing some festivities for post-practice (and bringing the barriers every week). We had a nice roaring fire at the park shelter, some fermented beverages and a few snacks. It was so much fun that by the time I rode home it was getting to be almost 9pm. And for the record I can't recommend chugging wine right before hopping on your bike and riding home. I was tasting that for a mile or two! It did, however, seem like a good idea at the time . . . A photo was taken of my wine chugging so I will have to a copy for the blog!

Practice itself was HARD. I felt okay in sections but horrible in others. The really, really long run-up was killing me especially by my last lap. The short run-up was killing me because I was wearing really old shoes with no toe spikes and worn out tread and I couldn't get any grip to run up the slippery surface. I better get the mud cleaned off of my normal shoes before I race again. Luckily the bike cleaning I did on Tuesday night was enough to make my bike rideable. I think it still needs a little TLC but not too much luckily.

Tonight I have a ride with a 30-minute light zone interval. That should be real fun as I could tell riding to work that my legs were still interested in some rest. Looks like it might be a little wet again but hopefully just a little sprinkle and not a downpour. I aslo need to go the A Stone's Throw semi-annual women's night event tonight since they sponsor both my teams . . . and because the staff is fun, the food at the events is stellar, and I usually feel obligated to buy at least one item which is always fabulous. I think I will just sip daintily from a wine glass tonight though and not chug from the bottle!

Halloween Cross this weekend!! I haven't finalized my costume yet but I've been giving it some thought. I love Halloween Cross . . . someday when Velo Trocadero doesn't want to put on a race anymore I'm going to make a bid to have that date. I can already imagine telling my volunteers to wear scary costumes . . .

And one last thing . . . this New York Times article on the muscle car vs. hybrid is a great read. Perfect for the '69 AmC Javelin owning, Jeep Cherokee driving, want-to-be environmentalist for contemplation about the real reasons behind her car choices. But really there is nothing as sexy as the sound of a dual exhaust, 4-barrel muscle car . . . .maybe if you palyed that sound in the stereo of the Prius! I saw the article on the TIAA-CREF/Clif Bar blog with lots of other cool articles. I think Ben posted that article purely for me so I would think about my car choices! I think I'll just ride my bike!
