What I've been doing . . .

1. Wednesday ride in the rain. It was pouring, I got really wet, I was cold by the time I got home. My shoes are still wet. It would have been perfect if the ride had been just 10 minutes shorter.

2. Thursday ride. Chilly but nice. Dry. Finished ride and then rushed to get to the Capitol Velo Club end-of-season banquet. I was the emcee for the evening's festivities. It was nice to see everyone. It's also nice to see that Samantha and I made our vision for CVC come true. CVC has been around since '89 but a few years ago had fallen into a bit of a slump. Not anymore!

3. I've started a tire recycling program for the cross season. Here's the info:
MadCross.org is pleased to announce its new Bike Tube Recycling Program. As cyclists, and especially as cyclocrossers, flats are an all too common occurrence for those of us who run clinchers. Often these tubes end up in the trash--maybe they are too far gone to be patched or maybe we just don't find the time.

MadCross.org is committed to trying to reduce cyclocrosser' s impact on the environment and this is one simple way. All you need to do is drop off your no longer useable bike tube with MadCross and they will be recycled. This weekend you will just need to find me or leave your tube by my car. However, I will be buying a bin to leave by my car ('97 Jeep Cherokee blueish/purple in color) to make this more convenient.

MadCross will send the tubes to Flat Bags where the tubes will be used to make cool bags. If you would like to buy a Flat Bag to support the cause of recycling you can find them at A Stone's Throw in Madison (one of the sponsors of the Capitol Velo Club/Badger Cross). If you don't need a bag you can still feel good that your tubes are not taking up space in a landfill.

Yes, Ben inspired me to try and do more. We had a conversation when he was in town about his plans for the team and it did get me to thinking. This is one small thing but after having a flat last Sunday I realized that surely I could come up with a bike tube recycling program. This summer I will put the bin at my house so people can drop off tubes on their way home from rides.
