Cross Practice Solo
Can you call it cross practice if you ride by yourself? Either way I rode my cross bike and did 3 sets of harder efforts and then I jogged for my "cool down" as I wanted to warm up a little. I think the temps had actually dropped down below 40. I rode with my mp3 player so that helped with the motivation to go at least somewhat hard. I rarely ride with music so it's kind of a nice change of pace.
I figured it wouldn't be good for very many people to try and ride at our normal cross practice park since biking is not technically allowed there and the ground was probably fairly wet in some spots. I went out to my alternative location, Blackhawk Ski Area, and did my ride there since Dave was going there anyway for ski school. I played it safe in all the corners because there were so many wet leaves and pine needles on the ground you could hardly see the trail. On my last effort it was also getting quite dark in the singletrack sections even though the ski schoolers had the lights turned on for the main ski trails (without snow the lights aren't that effective though).
On my ride home from work I was blasted with frozen ice pellets but it had cleared up by the time I went out for my cross ride. The ice pellets were funny and not painful like riding in hail since they were so small. Weather is so fun and interesting. That's one of the really cool things about living in Wisconsin--the constantly changing weather.

Yes, it's certainly practice if you ride by yourself! I like to go out to an unnamed park on the stealth to practice. I don't get in people's way, and the most I get are curious looks or the occasional curmudgeon complaining about the grass. Then I can work on whatever I need to work on and be one with the bike for a while. It works well for me!
