Oatmeal
This morning we were out of bagels. This meant that I had to eat something else for breakfast. Last week I bought oatmeal because I had decided that it would be good for me to like oatmeal. I don't like oatmeal though. So this morning I decided I would try eating oatmeal again and this time surely I would like it. I cooked up my oatmeal and added the last of my raspberries and some blueberries. Dave suggested brown sugar so I put a little bit of that in too.
It all started okay and I thought I had really turned a corner in my oatmeal eating. It was going pretty well. Then I ran out of raspberries in my oatmeal. Suddenly it wasn't so good but I kept eating. I decided to put in a few chocolate chips. Still not doing it for me but I kept eating. Dave had a pretty good laugh this morning. I don't think I will eat oatmeal again for awhile. I think I will got to the store and buy more bagels. A half a whole wheat bagel with crunchy peanut butter and raspberry jam is just a nicer way to start the day. Luckily we weren't out of chai!
So this week I've been getting my training done. If all goes well this weekend I'll actually be able to tell Ben that I did everything he recommended. That should shock him! Cross practice was h*ll. The Garner Park course has lots of running - one really long hill run up, sand pit run and short hill run up. My CVC teammates who came to practice are all tri-girls (and an adventure racer) they run really fast. I don't. That's good though as the Garner Park course is all things I'm bad at - running, open power sections, no twisty corners. It's bad to practice the things you are good at all the time.
Last night I went out to do a ride of moderate difficulty (some light zone intervals, pushing into the mid zone on the hills which I note for Mark who will understand what I'm saying). My legs were tired but I did as directed which was nice. It was beautiful out. The temps were arm warmer/knee warmer cool. The moon was full and as it got dark it was gorgeous with the fall colors. On a ride like that you don't care that your fitness is crap and the Cat 3 women are going to kick your butt next week as riding is the most amazing thing you could possibly be doing at that point in time. I love fall - the scenery, the temps - it's the best. It would have been a sweet night for a mountain bike ride on some fast, flowing singletrack.
No racing this weekend. Dave will probably do the WORS race in Sheboygan which he should as his bike fitness is really good right now. I would also like to take this opportunity to clear up why he doesn't have a cross bike. We both seem to be gettnig that question a lot lately. 1. He belongs to ski school. 2. He got new classic roller skis this summer. 3. He has a Seven so it's not like he's lugging around some craptastic old mtn bike. 4. This is Wisconsin so people roll with what they got or what they're into (see Tristan's post on the elite race at Badger Prairie). 5. We'll get him one eventually.
