Where in the world is Renee (and Dave)?
Having a picnic.
Learning how to make a sand dune
At the beach
Having vegan shakes at The Chicago Diner
Having nachos at The Chicago Diner
But NOT on the start line at the Michigan UCI Race.
It's kind of a long and kind of a short story as to why we were at the beach and at The Chicago Diner instead of at the race. Since it's late and I'm tired from the exhausting day of racing Dave up sand dunes I'll give the short version.
On Saturday it was clear that my fitness was not at the level required to compete against top racers like Tara Ross (pro roadie and '05 Cross World's team) and Brigette Stoick (8th at US Nats). Last year I accomplished the task of just showing up and doing the races and I really didn't want to do it again if I wouldn't be able to do better. I'm not that much of a racer chick that I want to show up knowing that I will probably be lapped. I had already decided that this weekend would be my last UCI race for the forseeable future anyway.
When I got to the race site this morning I realized that there were a lot of things I could do with my day that would make me a lot happier than going out and racing. I decided that I would just make Saturday my last UCI race instead. Dave asked me a couple of times before we left if I would regret the decision later. And after seriously considering it I decided that I would probably have a small amount of regret but that I no longer was interested in pursuing the dream of being an elite racer on the national scene. I was ready to just race the local races. I've never really been that great of a racer and I decided that I had tried my best and that I was ready to move on.
So with that we pulled out of the parking lot about 5 minutes after we got there and we headed off to find something else to do with our day. And I have to say that I felt really happy about that and we just had a fun day with no plan, no agenda, and the best vegan shakes in the world!

Vegan milkshakes make everything better.
Are you still coming out to Nats?
Knock 'em dead in Badgerland.
I know Brigette Stoick - strong CXer from Portland. Just being in the same race as she is an accomplishment! Nice girl too.
