Conferences are exhausting!
This week is the ProWalk/ProBike conference which is a conference for advocates and bike/ped professionals. It's in Madison so you would think that would make my life less chaotic. Not the case though as every day is jammed pack. Today I had a breakfast reception at 6:45am and it's 9:30pm and I just got home from the evening reception/party. I did sneak in a 60 minute ride in between the afternoon sessions and the evening reception but this week was basically a non-training week.
It's also an exhausting conference as lots and lots of people want to meet me. Since I've only been in the job 2 months every one is eager to get to know me and show me that what they are doing should be funded. It's great because I'm meeting so many people all in one place easily but by the end of the day I'm exhausted. I'm not complaining as it's good to see the interest in Safe Routes to School in so many communities around the state!
Tonight's reception was sponsored by Saris and they had a bike where people were competing for max power output. Of course I got talked into doing it but I didn't even make the top 3 women at the party. I think that no warm up, a few margaritas and no dinner was not helping! All in good fun though and I never thought I was a powerful rider.
