First Cross Practice of the Season

Last night was the first cross practice of the season here in Madison. I almost didn't go as the final Blackhawk Time Trial was going to be a short track which sounded really fun as well. However, with the Michigan UCI races only 3 short weeks away I figured I better get going with my cross skills.

A good call on my part as I felt a bit awkward although just the normal beginning of the season awkward. Not like last year where I was rather freaked out and worried incessantly about re-injuring my knee. Of course, I still harbor subconscious concerns and may never be as confident as I was before the knee injury.

We had an awesome turnout - Lewis brought the barriers and Gene kept us focused and on track. Greg was there and brought someone new to cross. Kirk and Ryan who are new to practices were there as well as a new cross practicer from St Louis. Kristen and Faye were there looking super fast. Evie came out for the first time as well as another gal who I didn't know (and she left before I got her name). Sorry for everyone's name that I have forgotten or gotten wrong!

One month to the big Wisconsin cyclocross kick off weekend! The Willy Street Co-op just signed on to sponsor the cross clinic again this year. They are awesome and if you don't shop there then you should start.

I'm feeling bad that I'm doing a smaller cross clinic this year as I'm starting to get emails for people wanting to be on the waiting list. I wasn't sure how much money I would have so I only committed to bringing Ben. I think this means that I might have to hold a 3rd Annual clinic in 2007 (I can't even believe that I'm saying that since I swore I was only doing the cross clinic one time).

Work is looking supremely busy this Fall. I just went over the timeline for my program with my supervisor and everything got the okay. She did laugh when she thought about all the things that I've committed myself and my assistant to accomplishing this fall. Things are going to be CRAZY especially in October and November. In November I'll be traveling around the state to exoctic locales like Superior, Eau Claire, Rhinelander and more. Hopefully no one will notice if I bring a bike along (I think that might be prohibited in state vehicles but hopefully there's an exception for those of us who work on bike issues). Good think I still love my job since my job and cross are going to be in a bit of conflict.

And I just want to put in a plug for Walk to School Day on October 4. Get your local school involved!
