My ride to Tyrol Basin
Today Dave was doing some sort of "freak duathlon" . . . by that I mean a trail run and roller ski . . . and by freak I mean that both the trail run and roller ski were uphill. That sounds like some kind of good time! Anyway, I decided that I would ride out to Tyrol Basin where it was being held and say hi to all the skiers.
The problem is that I hatched my plan Friday night and told Dave when he left early this morning that I would see him out there. Of course, I was still in bed when I told him that. Of course, once I set out on my ride I realized that I had doomed myself to a ride of about 1hr and 45min with a headwind basically the whole way. That got a little old by the end. I had moments of wanting to just turn around and ride home but I had no way to tell Dave so I just kept riding.
The lowest moment may have been when I could see for what seemed like miles and I couldn't seem to make any progress. Yes, I was riding on the bike trail where you can see it slowly rising for ever in front of you which is not a big deal except when you're moving slowly into a head wind. However, the all time low may have been the part where a semi-vicious dog chased me. That was right after I turned off the trail to ride the last bit to Tyrol Basin. At this point I had a vicious side wind and an angry dog chasing me. I actually thought I was going to get bit but luckily I didn't.
However, the highlight of the ride was just as I got to Mount Horeb and a little girl of maybe 9 0r 10 years old on a purple bike passed me on the trail and gleefully yelled out a hello. She had this look on her face like I was the coolest person all decked out in my bike gear and riding on a cold day. I think she's going to grow up to be a cool biker chick.
I have to admit that I would love to just have a nice lazy day tomorrow but racing beckons. Hopefully I'm less tired tomorrow than I am right now. I had good intentions of going to the store, finishing my laundry and a variety of other tasks. All I got done was working on the CVC end of the year party slide show but that needed to get done since our party is this Thursday.
