Home again

The thing I hate most about vacations is when they are over. It always makes me really sad to come home. I love Madison but I just love traveling more. I really shouldn't be too sad as Dave and I are planning a mtn bike trip to Wales in August for our 15th Anniversary and that really is just around the corner.

I'll post more vacation photos later as we went some amazing places . . . .

Top 10 things from our CO/WY/UT trip:

10 - Returning home to a notice from the Madison Inspection Unit that we need to mow our grass/weeds or be fined. Don't they know we are vacationing and have more important things to think about? I also think they are not quite the illegal length of 8".

9 - Bumping into Tawnya Armstrong (formerly of IL) at the Luna Bar tent at the Boulder Festival. She tells me that she expects to be back for the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. Thanks for all the snacks for the plane ride home!

8 - Returning to Fruita to ride great trails like Prime Cut, Horsethief Bench, Mack's Ridge and more. I really like the trail at Highline State Park as well . . . just right for an evening ride after a day out at the other trails.

7 - The food at Leaf in Boulder as well as the amazing mint lemonade. I'm always happy when there is a vegetarian restaurant to enjoy.

6 - Trail running in Dinosaur National Monument. I don't run very often but sometimes you have a run that is just spectacular and this was one of them. It was beautiful, the temps were just right and it was so fun. It made me remember why I want to be a runner again.

5- Turning a casual 2-mile hike into a spontaneous "power hike" of 4.5 miles in Rocky Mountain National Park. Luckily Dave and I had the good sense to turn around when we did or we wouldn't have made it back before dark. I just wanted a little more exercise . . . I guess some water would have been nice though and maybe a snack.

4 - Traveling scenic byways in Colorado. Dave and I took some new roads that we haven't traveled before and got to see some spectacular areas that we must return to so we can explore them more fully.

3 - Having to go to Over the Edge Sports in Fruita to buy a new tube almost every day. One day the tire conveniently went flat in the car after we'd driven back to town. The next day my flat happened only about 5 minutes from the end of the ride. Nice guys at the shop who also worked on my bike twice so I think I stopped in every day we were in Fruita.

2 - Hiking in the snow outside Jackson . . . we sank in many times almost up to our waist. However, we made it to Lake Goodwin, hiked back with storm clouds brewing, never ended up getting wet and made it back home for good Mexican food and margaritas.

1 - Hanging out with amazing friends in Jackson, WY and getting to play with the two coolest kids on the planet - Alex and Lucas. I vow to never go so long between visits again. Good friends should be visited more often and kids grow up too fast not to visit frequently.
