I did a race!

It's shocking but I really did get out and do a race. I thought that week 3 of base miles would be the perfect time for racing. I headed out to Rockford for the Rock Cut race. You can see some photos on the Mad FORCs blog.

What can I say? Well, I can say that the race really paid off . . . I won a raffle prize. And it wasn't your typical water bottle or other minor prize. I won a Garmin GPS, the 305.

And I'm sure Chris would say that I really need it. It's true that I have no sense of direction . . . and without Chris I would never have gotten out of the park and onto the freeway. I fine it completely impossible to retrace my steps. I should have printed out directions from the park to home but I was in a hurry. Luckily Chris gestured wildly and honked at me when necessary to ensure that I didn't get lost.

Anyway, I almost didn't go to the race as I felt like crap this morning and I was so tired. Working 6 days in a row really didn't leave me feeling like jumping up and going to the race. However, I wanted to hang out with my teammates and I had said that I would be going. (Not that they expected me to actually show up given that I can't even remember the last time I did a race of 2 hours; yes, I'm a cxer and I like racing for 50-60 minutes).

The cool part is that I feel like maybe I am a mountain biker after all . . . on lap 2 I rode the largest log piles which I didn't ride on lap one and only had a couple of minor bobbles which is amazing given how tired I was feeling towards the end. As to the big log piles - on lap one I had no idea what they were like as they were tall enough you couldn't see what you were getting yourself into. With all the problems I've been having with my body being out of alignment I really didn't need to crash and make things worse. On lap one I practiced my cx dismount/mount but on lap two I rode them as I had a chance to check them out and so I felt more comfortable going for it. The best part though was when one of the course marshalls complimented me on my dismount. I guess he doesn't hang around cxers enough.

Anyway, I usually feel like I'm not really a roadie but I'm not really a mountain biker either but I did alright today. There is some hope for me which is good since I'm planning a couple of mtn bike trips this year so I need to brush up on my skills.

Okay, I'm tired so that's all I have to say for tonight.

Congrats! I do crits in the summer to prepare for CX - same amount of time, same high intensity, just hurts more when you go down!

I have to say, when Kim noticed that you were looking at the map to get out of the park, I was a bit worried ... I tried to call you, but you didn't have your phone on! Or you just didn't hear it. Thankfully, it all worked out, and you found your way to Madison!
