Good friends, good times!
A huge, huge, huge Happy Birthday to one of the best pals a gal could have - my very dear friend Mattie.
Mattie is an amazing person. I remember when I first met her how totally in awe of her I was. She was this cool and adventurous gal who climbed, skied, ran, traveled and so much more. I was rather new to the whole outdoor scene and felt pretty dorky in comparison as I had just taken up mountain biking, wanted to learn to ski, never did any running and had only a couple of times traveled outside of Wisconsin. I was worried that I seemed pretty lame in comparison to Mattie and clearly Dave (who I was dating at the time) held her in pretty high esteem. Dave and Mattie are cousins and Dave would tell me these cool stories about going on ski trips together and how she took him climbing when she visited him in Europe when he lived there. I was worried I would seem pretty uncool in comparison.
Luckily Mattie is one of the nicest people I know and luckily she liked me so she didn't advise Dave to dump me! She's even been patient enough to take me climbing . . . a sport at which I suck as I all too often cling desperately to the rock and stop moving upward and onward. We've had some good times together though both here in Wisconsin, in Jackson, WY where she lives and on an outrageously fun trip together in Italy. I can't wait to have many more adventures with you in the many years we have in front of us!!
A nice picture from the Italian Dolomites from my trip with Mattie. And yes we did climb up one of those peaks.

I am the lucky one. You continue to inspire me as you always have. Your verve and spirt are absolutely unmatched and you gracefully carry the rest of us along in your wake--thank goodness! Thank you for all that you share with your friends. We are indeed a truly lucky bunch.
