Spring is in full swing!
Just last week I was living the life that dreams are made of . . . . yoga, running, skiing and biking all in one week. But weeks like that are too good to last! Sure there are still little pockets of snow to be found but I think my ski season is over. Usually I like to take one last trip north for some nice late season skiing but this year I'm trying to save money so I can afford some vacations this summer.
On Tuesday it was about 60 degrees here so I got out for a ride with my mountain bike teammates. You can read my thoughts on that ride on the Mad FORCs team blog. I'm really trying to get psyched up for the bike season as it seems that I may have made comments that made it seem that I would be joining my teams at more races this year.
The thing is that I helped organize a movement to discuss and work on improving the women's road racing here in Wisconsin. I guess I didn't realize that would obligate me to go race crits in April but apparently it does. I'm trying to get excited about that. It's hard though as I've never really gotten that excited about road racing. The couple of years that I did a bit of road racing it was because I thought it would be good for me. Some people start that way and really get hooked on it but I never did. The worst part is that back when I did dabble in road racing I did do some riding over the winter but now I start my base miles in April. I guess it's a good thing I've been out on a couple of rides already. Oh well, no one said I had to do well. I just have to show up and be on the start line.
As to mountain bike racing . . . . I love to ride my mountain bike but I just haven't been into mountain bike racing that much. However, it looks like we're going to have an amazing group of women racing with the FORCs this season which will probably lead me to do a few more races this summer. Obviously I'll be doing 24-9 as everyone is already excited for that. I'm trying to find a WORS race to do. I raced WORS starting in 1992 but stopped in 2001. This might just be the year to try one again. I think I might have said that last year but never made good on the promise. I'm working up to it!
I guess that's my boring update for now. I have been so busy with work and stuff for CVC and the FORCs the last couple of weeks so I haven't had time to keep up with the blog. Of course, blogging about going to meetings and organizing stuff isn't exactly fascinating reading. And work is crazy busy as the first round of grant applications for my program have to be completed and in the mail by Friday. My work days are jam packed with going to meetings and answering phone calls. It is pretty cool to be getting grant applications in the mail and seeing what kind of bike/ped improvements communities and schools want to make. I just wish I had more funds to disperse as $4 million just doesn't go that far.
More later! And hopefully it will be more interesting and filled with amusing anecdotes of some sort. I will strive to do something interesting this weekend so I can blog about it.

Crits are a great way to get ready for 'cross season: short, intense efforts. Just hurts a bit more when you go down!
