It's not easy being a skier
Even though I won't be at the Birkie this year it's hard not to follow the race conditions drama. It's like I told Jim Holmes . . . it was a good winter to be a skier but a bad winter to be a ski racer. Sure southern Wisconsin had more snow than normal and we were able to ski trails that normally might never be open over the course of a winter but northern Wisconsin has had a serious snow drought and many racers were cancelled, shortened or forced to make big changes. At least the current changes mean the 23k Birkie will still be longer than the Kortie (which is normally 26k but has not been shortened to 18k).
I hear this weekend could bring some big snow storms though . . . that's good as now I'm looking to make my ski race debut at the Great Bear Chase up in Houghton, MI in a couple of weeks. I wonder how that will feel after not doing a single ski race all winter. I'm guessing . . . OUCH!
