Great Weekend
Given that it was Earth Day weekend I started the weekend with a little Saturday morning trail work day. Melissa, Gwenn and I headed out to Blackhawk where we resurrected a trail that was overgrown and hadn't been used in a while.
After that Dave and Iheaded up to the trails at Levis-Trow near Hatfield for some mountain biking.
We got in about an hour and forty minutes of riding.
We forgot to take our camera on the ride so we only snapped a few photos on the trail near the parking lot.
After our ride we headed to the Russell Park Campground on Lake Arbutus. There were maybe 4 campsites being used so it was nice and quiet. The park isn't actually staffed until May 1 so there wasn't much happening which was perfect.
I scavenged enough downed branches in the park to get a nice little fire going.
On Sunday we headed back out to the Levis-Trow trails to hit some of the trails we didn't get to on Saturday. By the time we started riding at 10am it was already getting hot, hot, hot.
Here we are very early in the ride on the flat singletrack that allows you to warm up before you have to climb.
The next few photos show a few of the bridges they have built.
More singletrack.
This is Dave on the new Sidewinder trail which is basically a trail benchcut into the mound with lots of exposure. This is the bridge between a couple of rocky points with a little ravine below.
It's very sandy in this area
And rocky.
The trails at Levis-Trow are designated as IMBA epic ride trails and they should be.
I have to say that it's not the easiest place to go for your first mountain bike ride of the season but it sure was fun to get out there and get in some riding and to get in our first camping trip of the season.
Can't wait for some more fun weekends like this one!
