Now it's about the road bike!

I got my new Schwinn bike yesterday at lunch. Very exciting! It's super light weight and very aesthetically pleasing. At first I wasn't that excited about the paint job as mostly I only like purple bikes (half of my bikes are purple actually). However, the paint job is really cool in real life (vs looking at it on the website). I like the black carbon fiber part the most and the blue and orange look pretty sweet next to that.

Of course, the bike aesthetics aren't everything . . . almost everything actually . . . but you probably want to know how it rides. Well, I can't give it a fair bike review just yet as I need to tweak a few things on it first so I can really give a good review. First thing i have to change is the saddle . . . now the Fiz'ik saddle isn't as bad as I expected. Normally I can't ride more than 30 seconds on the saddles that come on bikes but for the first 30 minutes I didn't think it was too horrible. However, I rode the bike for maybe an hour last night and the last 30 minutes I was really glad that I'd ordered a Terry saddle which hopefully arrives soon (my bottom will be happier then as it is very particular about bike saddles).

I also ordered a different rear cassette . . . I admit that I am a huge wuss . . . an 11x23 is not for me. I thought the climb up Seminole Hwy to the beltline was as big a hill as I could conquer with that gearing. Dave promptly told me that he was sure that was the gearing on his bike. Whatever! It's no secret that I'm not a climber. (Not sure why I'm even considering doing the state road championships . . . last time I did it I was in better climbing shape and I still got shelled on the climb).

What else? I'm going to have to switch out the handlebar and stem as well. I have super narrow shoulders and anything but really narrow bars just don't work for me. I also need a little shorter stem. Small issues really but yet important to the overall ride experience.

Last night I stopped at Willy Bikes and surely they love me and all my neediness! Luckily Rich and Dave are used to humoring me and they got everything I needed that wasn't in stock ordered. Hopefully the cassette and saddle arrive Friday so I can get in a longer ride this weekend. I suppose I could take the saddle off my cross bike if the new one doesn't arrive until Monday and I could suck it up and ride an 11x23 (well, as long as I don't ride too far west where the hills are monstrous).

I forsee more road biking in my future.
