Life just got pricey
Why do things all happen at once? First our roof started to leak so there goes $$$$$$ (we have a complicated roofing job unfortunately which is obscenely expensive) . . . then my doctor decides to "fix" my cavity and now a tooth that didn't even bother me needs a $1900 root canal of which my insurance will only pay for 50%.
That seemed bad enough but then I stopped at the bike shop to have my commuter bike's rear brake adjusted and all the mechanics began haranguing me about how my commuter bike is no longer safe to ride and that it needs to be retired asap. It's sad because I'm emotionally attached to my 1992 Trek 8000. It is purple with purple anno accessories. Dave traded his motorcycle for the bike and I did the '92 WORS series on that bike. It also went on my first trip out west to Moab. The big deal though is that this bike is what has seen me through the last 10+ winters of commuting pretty much every day. I have no other winter bike so if that bike isn't safe to ride anymore I need to figure out what I'm going to do and how cheaply I can do it. All my other bikes are too nice to be riding once they start salting the roads. I can't believe it's gone from a marginally safe bike to ride to completely unsafe in one year . . . well, it's not like I didn't have some concerns about the safety of riding it. It is visibly rusted all over and the paint is peeling off and I will admit some concerns but I like living in denial!
And then the final straw this morning . . . our furnace stopped working this morning so we had to pay for a Saturday repair call. That was nice! We also missed out on helping set up the race course or pre-riding as you have to wait for the repair man to come and they don't tell you an exact time. At least we have heat again now though which is highly enjoyable as it is only in the 30s today. It did also give me time to find all the things I could possibly sell so that's a positive.
Anyway, I'm selling some stuff over at MadCross so check it out. Maybe there is just the item you've been needing.

That's rough! Hopefully tomorrow's race goes well for you (and your tooth doesn't bother you too much)
