The cold days of January
Today was a warmer bike commute but yesterday was a cold one. Not intolerable but noticeable. I've been a little annoyed though. Why is it that a major bike route (Kendall, to be exact) can't be maintained at the same level as a major auto route. I'm all for decreasing the salting of our roads but how can we expect people to be year round bike commuters when popular bike routes are ice covered? Luckily I won a studded tire at the Fat Tire this year so I haven't had any problems. It's just the principle of it.
Rant over because at least Madison plows the bike paths which (thanks to working on bike/ped issues at the DOT) I know for a fact that many other Wisconsin communities aren't so good about doing.
What else is happening with me?
1. I have a 99.9% feeling that I will be making a big cross related announcement in the near future. I'm sure you can guess what that is if you try but I will wait until I have the official notification to say it.
2. Home remodeling is an annoying undertaking that sucks up a lot of time and a frightening amount of money. However, if you have a 100 year old home it is something that must be done. If you need any repairman recommendations let me know. I've got a handyman, an appliance installer, a roofer and I'm hoping to finalize who will be doing the insulating and windows. This week alone I have appointments with 3 different people to get everything worked out and I also have to go to the appliance store to order appliances (the upstairs cooktop and oven are just not working right anymore-after only about 30 years). My handyman is on vacation in Florida but next week he'll be back to work on little projects. That means he will ask me questions and expect decisions. He just finished "rejuvenating" our upper apartment's bathroom before he left and now we have a few more small projects for him. Next up for him is replacing the tile behind the cooktop in the upper apartment which has plastic tile that has started to fall off. It's rather overwhelming to be doing so many different projects at once but I have no patience for home projects so I've decided to try and get everything we need done now. Then I can be done for another 10 years!
3. Skiing. I need to do more skiing. It's supposed to be super cold this weekend which is a bummer but we are supposed to get some more snow tomorrow which is awesome. We had thought of going to Minocqua for the long weekend but since it's going to be so cold and we have snow I think we'll just ski here at home. I don't think I'll be out doing 5 hour skis if there is a 20 below wind chill so it's not worth traveling that far. I can ski for a few hours in the cold here at home just as well.
Pretty exciting life, huh???
