Getting things done . . .
I think the illness that struck me is finally starting to subside. It's been long enough that's for sure. However, I've been trying to get things done and there seems to be plenty to do.
First off is the UCI cyclocross race application. John and I completed our respective parts and it is now in the hands of USA Cycling and the UCI to decide our fate. If the application is accepted then the work will really begin! I really, really, really hope we get the okay as I'm psyched up to make this happen and to make it the best event ever (remind me of how excited I was about this when I'm tired and cranky from making it come together).
I'm also in the throes of getting ready to leave for Kansas City for cross nationals. I haven't ridden a bike since November 27 so it certainly isn't my training that is taking up my time! It's more the doing laundry, cooking food to take along, finding a place for a group dinner and things of that nature.
I've also jumped right on into ski season. I've only been out a couple of times actually since I'm trying to kick this illness that has been plaguing me but both have been good skis. I got out to Blue Mounds State Park for some classic skiing on Sunday (with Shannon and Jim). My legs are still sore from that today! Last night was the Madnorski meeting so I feel like I'm full on into ski season now and it's only 3.5 weeks until my first ski race of the season.
I've also gotten mildly involved in a little "ruckus" over trail damage by cyclocrossers. It really is just part of an ongoing dialogue between silent sports enthusiasts and ATV users. Apparently my photos and video from the race at Hales Corner were being used to make the case that bikers were bad or some such. The abbreviated version is online at the Silent Sports magazine forum. Luckily it was a fairly civilized discussion and all I did was point out that we did do repair to the grass and trails after the race and that the event paid the cost.
The other big news is that Dave and I finally settled on a roofing contractor . . . we're hiring Waunakee Remodeling. TI'm excited because they will come patch the hole in our roof immediately and with all the snow we're getting we need that patched asap. I have to admit that buying a roof is not very exciting but it has to happen so I'm glad to have the decision made and move forward. It sure is painful to write a check that big though. It's a good thing I like my house and my neighborhood.
This time tomorrow I should be in the lovely Kansas City, KS partying at the Comfort Suites. Woohoo!
