Home Sick
No, I'm not homesick. I'm home and I'm sick. What a bummer! Yesterday morning I felt fine but yesterday afternoon I started to feel not so great so I left work early. I've slowly felt worse and worse. Everyone else in my office has been sick so it's not a great shock. Hopefully I'm feeling better by Sunday as I don't want to miss the state championship. It's a new race course and I want to race on it. We'll see what happens.
In between laying on the couch I've been finding time to work on John and I's UCI race application. I'm actually getting pretty close to a first draft for John and I's to discuss and refine. I've also been working on our sponsorship proposal as we're going to need find some serious funds to make this the event that we're both imagining. I'm very excited to try and attract a big field of women as we'll be offering the same prize list to the women as the men. Yes, that means we'll paying out a minimum of $2,009 to 25. The UCI really annoys me with the way they treat women's (and girls) racing - small prize payout requirements, no Junior or U23 world championships, european races with no women's race. I just don't get it.
The other big issue - sandbagging. Did everyone out there see the upgrade points/sandbagger ebay listing for the Verge New England series? Pretty funny and pretty harsh, Sandbagging is certainly an issue everywhere. In thinking about John and I's race there is a lot to think about when it comes to sandbagging. Obviously winning money is nice compared to medals or merchandise. I get that but at what point does giving money to lower classes encourage people not to upgrade. Or is it just that people want to win and they wouldn't upgrade even if there were no prizes? Or is it the series prizes? Or what? I'm sure it's a lot of factors and that it's different for everyone.
It certainly is a hot topic though as Cyclocross Magazine had an article on sandbagging as well.

I saw both of those sandbagging stories - funny, yet not so much. People say I upgraded too soon, but it's made me stronger even if I only get to see people's backsides for a season! I'm stoked about your UCI race!
I'm sick too. Ugh. I hope you are feeling much better by the weekend!
