First Ski of the Season
Finally last night I couldn't take it anymore. One whole week with no exercise (beyond walking to and from the bus stop) and I was going insane. I can't say that I'm not sick anymore but I figured if I was going to work then I was well enough that I could go skiing.
I wish I had remembered my camera as conditions are superb. I headed out to Odana golf course since Dave was doing ski school there. It's funny how every year the first time I put on the skis I have this feeling that I might not remember how to skate ski. Luckily I still remember and I still can V1 and V2. Not that well but I got by. However, I think I was having too much fun as I probably should have stopped after an hour but I just had to do one more lap which was probably one more lap than I should have. I was definitely coughing like crazy on the last one and the temperature dropped rapidly about that time so I was kind of cold. It felt good to be out there and I only freaked out a little bit about the fact that I signed up to ski the Birkie. I have a long ways to go before I'm ready for that.
Afterwards it was my friend Gordy's birthday (he donated the granola bars to Badger Cross) and we all went out to the new pizza place on Monroe St - Brutta Pizza. For locals it's in the place where Sepp's Sports used to be so it was fun to see how different the place looked. Hard to believe it used to be a ski shop. People eating there were asking us about ski conditions as we were all decked out in our ski clothing and Madnorksi jerseys/jackets.
I probably won't go to Chicago to race this weekend. It'd be fun but I hate to miss good snow conditions at home and I hate to spend the money to drive there when I'm going to Kansas City next week. Besides I need the ski time as I want my xc season to go way better than my cx season!
