The sound of cowbells ringing . . . .
Yes, I can almost still hear the sound of the cowbells that were ringing at the WCA Cyclocross Banquet on Saturday. That was the best! Kudos to everyone for a really fun evening. I almost felt like I was at a cross race when the bells were ringing, the fans were cheering and the beer (and root beer) were flowing.
I also was taken completely by surprise when Kristin commandeered the microphone to thank John and I for our work on all things cross. It really meant a lot to me and I sincerely appreciate everyone's generosity. As I'm sure is obvious I really love cyclocross and I really love the community of racers here. I said in the email that I sent out that I wouldn't trade our Wisconsin/Illinois cross scene for any other. Sure, some might be bigger and some might have more "big name" riders but we have tons of fun and we support each other and that's what matters. Our scene is likely the best kept secret in cyclocross
Of course, if all goes well with John and I's application for a UCI race then we'll have one race weekend that will attract more people from outside our scene and then lots of great local races too. I have so many ideas swirling around in my head for next year that it is hard to know where to start. I've also had a few people approach me with ideas and offers of assistance which is great.
2008 . . . . watch out!
