Another post so soon!

I put some photos from the Dirt Retreat online at the Mad FORCs blog last night.

Things on my mind -

Art - One of Dave's distant relatives who was a street artist was murdered in Chicago over the weekend. Neither of us really know Brendan well but we know his parents who live here in Madison and are very cool people. There's lot to think about in this tragedy. However, one positive thing it has got me thinking about art in general and public art in particular (which I really love). I'm thinking of trying to make some art for my front yard (if I ever finish removing the last of the stumps which I have promised myself I would do before moving on to anything else in the yard). I think I'm going to try to make something out of the windows that I had replaced. A nice combination of recycling, landscaping and public art all in one. We'll see how that goes (as mentioned before I also want to make some of the windows into coffee table/side tables).

A photo I found online of a piece done by Solve aka Brendon Scanlon

Food - Food is on my mind most of the time but it is especially on my mind as I think about buying from local growers and also how to best use all the food I get from the CSA I belong too. With that in mind here's a recipe that is very seasonal (both radishes and chives were in my CSA box this week).

Orzo, Radish and Chive Salad
Water or Veggie Broth for cooking orzo
1/2 cup orzo (rice shaped pasta)
1 1/2 tablespoons mayonnaise (regular, vegan, or whatever)
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
4 radishes, quartered and slice thin
1 tablespoon minced fresh chives

Into a small saucepan of boiling veggie broth or water stir orzo and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain orzo well and in a bowl combine with mayonnaise and lemon juice, stirring to coat. Stir in radishes, chives, and salt and pepper to taste. Very tasty!
