Less than a week now . . .

It's the final days until JP's PB Cup . . .

Here's what's on my mind:
- Why do all the fun things happen at the same time???? I was thinking that we should advertise the cyclocross banquet earlier this year. Then I realized - Oh sh*t the Bike Swap is January 10 and so is the 24 Hours of Telemark. This poses a huge dilemna for me. On the one hand I love cross and I'm in charge of organizing the banquet and I love to see everyone and socialize one last time and show a video of the season. Having the banquet in conjunction with the Swap last year worked great. On the other hand January is ski season and I love to ski and I need to ski to prepare for the Birkie. Plus I love my 24 Hour team and if I let someone else have my spot on the team I will never get it back. I want to do both but I can't be in two places at once.

- Worrying about our merchandise prizes for the race. I had to ask Ryan from Twin Six to go back to the office on Saturday to send our prizes before he left for Interbike. I felt horrible about that but I really needed them. Luckily he is so nice that he did and was cool about it. I had a similar dilemna with Planet Bike but Jay is still in the office so crisis averted. Hopefully Jason at Oakley and Jim at Pedros have their prizes in the mail. I think they must as I really just confirmed with them the other day. I was stressing on Saturday but everything is good now.

- Lots of thinking about signage. How many signs for registration, for parking, for bathrooms. What to do for the podium backdrop. What to do for the start and finish banners. What is economical but will look good. Signs suck. Banners are expensive. The ambulance we're required to have is $500 each day. We'd have great banners if it weren't for that. Well, that and the $750+ for crowd control barriers. Those are budget killers. So I say that signage is on my mind but really money is on my mind.

- Awards are on my mind. Had a fun meeting with the Awards Coordinator and chatted about bouquets and champagne and podium girls gone bad (and if we could get any buff looking guys for podium boys and if they would wear matching outfits like the Tour's podium girls). Went to the store and bought 150 envelopes for the money prizes. Organized the prizes I already have. Realized that we need to have 100 signed checks. Emailed the team treasurer to see if we had that many.

- Press Releases. Sent to the usual cycling publications . . . a little hiccup when Tim Johnson confirmed in a VeloNews article that he was indeed coming but I had sent out info without mentioning him. Of course, cyclocrossworld's Stu Thorne noticed. For the record I really wasn't sure if he was or wasn't coming until he told VeloNews. I'm super excited he is coming though. I also didn't include Bjorn Selander in the press releases as I hadn't heard from him either but he is coming so I better get his name on the webpage at least. Got press out to all the local media and I think we'll have some coverage as long as nothing huge happens that weekend (like Brett Favre playing against the Packers or some other such thing).

- House Organization. Yves and Guillaume (Swiss guys) are going to stay in our apartment after the race until they leave for the Ohio races so I felt like I should at least try to make our place livable. I finally unpacked from Chequamegon and did laundry. Went to the store and bought Swiss cheese (that is funny if you're old enough to have seen Better Off Dead). I figure at our house they'll be able to play foosball when they aren't out training. They also can hit up all the neighborhood college parties if they get tired of hanging out with old people.

- Sanity. I don't think you can be totally sane and be an event promoter especially one with a day job. Dave told me yesterday that I needed to ride to my meeting since I was getting a little too punchy. I also have ideas or things to add to the To Do list in the middle of the night when I can't sleep because I have too many details on my mind. And speaking of sanity my mother is also driving me crazy with her incessant calls about nothing. I told her the other day that she could call me one more time that day and no more. She's bored but she just calls and asks me nonsense like when are you doing this, when are you doing that, are you riding your bike there, did I wake you up, etc.

- Other. I got a very nice note from Ben Turner today wishing me well in my race promotion. I had to post that for Josh so he'd know that Ben and I are still friends even if I didn't have Ben to Madison for a clinic this year. Speaking of Ben, I want one of these. It seems more achievable than what I always say I want which is one of these. Of course my dreams of either were crushed earlier this summer by my dentist who told me how much the tooth implant I need costs. Good thing my current bikes are all really very nice and I don't actually need a new bike.

Race day is fast approaching!!!! I think this weekend is going to be pretty great and I'm excited to see all the locals again and to have so many people coming from all over to race here.
