The Calm . . .
This was our last chance for a calm weekend for awhile and I put it to good use. I finished unpacking from our trip from a few weeks ago. I did the laundry. We finally put up our new window blinds in our bedroom which was a vast improvement over hanging a sheet over our windows (the old windows had frosted glass; the new windows don't; our windows look into our neighbors windows). I vacuumed the cat hair off our rugs. We took the last of our excess furniture (from renting our upstairs apt out as furnished) to Goodwill. I hot glued on the pieces that fell off the mirror that was upstairs that I was hanging downstairs (and burned myself on hot glue in the process so I don't have a future as a crafter). We went to the grocery store and I made a really tasty broccoli potato dish. I went for a ride and watched some of the Ironman. Dave did the WORS race and had another good race.
Next weekend is the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. I believe this will be my 14th year doing that event -- and my 5th time doing the 16. Next year I'll be back to do my 10th 40 (to celebrate being 40). It should be a fun weekend of hanging out with friends and seeing people I don't see too often now that I don't mountain bike race too often. I have low expectations . . . so low that I asked Gary Crandall if he would rescind my preferred start but he told me he was too busy so I should suck it up. It's true . . . just because I have a preferred start doesn't mean that I have to start up there. Should be a fun event though . . . Jonathan Page is going to be there racing for the first time. I think he's going to stay with my friends and I so we can regale him with tales of races past. Of course Dave is the only one in my group who is doing the 40 . . . the rest of us are doing the short race or are people who didn't get in at all.
Okay, back to obsessing about crowd control barriers, PA systems, finish line banners and other exciting items. Posters just arrived and now need to get out. I think I'll put some up in Hayward this weekend.
