Gocation
I needed a little vacation before things got any crazier so Dave and I headed up to the UP of Michigan . . . once again heading to the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Thursday we headed up and we stopped at the Underdown Recreation Area for a little mountain biking. I always enjoy the trails there although they've been doing a lot of logging so they weren't the usual tree lined trails.
Yesterday we headed out on the Churning Rapids trails as well as the Maasto Hiito trails. We did have a map for MH so we only got to hit some of the singletrack there but I really enjoyed the trails at Churning Rapids.
This morning Dave and I hit up a local 5k trail run. OUCH! I haven't been running since the trail run up here in July and I really haven't been running a race pace you need for a 5k. Dave really hasn't run at all but he flew off with the front runners and ended up 5th overall in the 5k and got 2nd in his age group with a time of 21 minutes. I had the good luck to be in what the race director said was the toughest age group in the event (women 30-39). However, I pulled out a very painful 3rd place finish and was only about 30 seconds out of 1st. I always feel that if I get a top finish up here in the UP then I'm doing good as they gals up here are tough, tough, tough.
This afternoon Dave and I headed out to the Swedetown trails. We've done ski races there before and I've always liked the ski trails. Well, the mountain bike trails are even better. Fast, flowing and totally buffed out. I was tired by the end of 2.5 hours of riding as the 5k took it out of me a bit but very fun.
